Above the Call is made possible with gratitude and appreciation from Rich Broadcasting, Pocatello Nissan Kia and KPVI 6.
Each month, we highlight the heroes who work tirelessly to keep us safe. This month’s recipient is Trent Smith from the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Smith and his JK9 partner Sony, were nominated by Kortney Whiting.
Here is what Whiting had to say about Officer Smith:
Trent has worked in law enforcement for over 10 years. He has sacrificed many long nights, weekends, and holidays to keep our community safe. He is completely dedicated to doing his job the very best he can and goes above and beyond. He has traveled to Dallas, TX for the officer funerals that took place as well as many others to support our fallen officers. He is part of the honor guard, and SWAT team. Last year, he was given the opportunity to be a K9 officer for Bannock County. He has put countless hours into training his dog, Sony, to be the best K9 out there. He is always so happy to volunteer his time to do demos for the kids, scout groups, and local schools. He also spends many hours volunteering to do shop with a cop. He always gets so excited to help the kids out every Christmas. In fact, one year the day they had shop with a cop, his entire house flooded, and still made it a point to do the shop with a cop. He said, “Well there wasn’t much that could be done about my house being flooded, whats done is done, and I couldn’t let the kids down.” Trent is a wonderful officer and would do anything for anyone in need. Especially his fellow officers and family members.
